When operations decelerate, it is first thought to fault the numbers. Forecasts must be wrong. The model must be outdated. The math needs refinement. I have witnessed silos that have taken months to fine-tune algorithms as their delivery time keeps increasing and their expenses keep growing in the background. As a matter of fact, the actual bottleneck is often broken communication and disconnected systems, rather than the equations themselves.
AI adoption is everywhere. There is no logistics conference, nor an industry report, where you can read about how artificial intelligence is changing the way things are done. However, it is here that I have learnt a lesson during my long life working in this terrain; because everyone is talking about it does not mean that most people are willing to accept it.
